Hospital/GP referral programmes:

Fitness for health

The fitness for health programme offers extra support and guidance for those who need more than a general gym induction. It’s there for a whole host of physical and mental needs ranging from blood pressure or weight concerns to someone who may have suffered a stroke. Anyone is welcome to join with a referral from their GP, clinical nurse or physiotherapist. The referral form can be downloaded here and needs to be completed and signed by one of the above, before being returned to the main reception to book your first fitness for health session.

The fitness for health programme includes two x one hour inductions in the gym where an instructor will discuss your needs and goals before preparing your personalised programme. A mini assessment is also given at the end of the 12 weeks with a programme update.

Fitness for health coaches are in the gym at dedicated times Monday - Saturday every week (as displayed on the Chat 1st physical wellbeing timetable). However with the Fitness for Health membership, members can use the gym at any time once they have completed their two inductions.

Youth autism & additional needs gym sessions

For ages 12 - 19 years, from 4pm - 5pm every Saturday, the Gym is used exclusively for our autism and additional needs gym sessions. Each participant is met in main reception and led through to the gym where the music is turned down and the session is led by Ben. Ben himself has autism and has found using the gym has proved to be a great coping strategy, boosting his confidence and developing his physical and mental wellbeing. Once very nervous to enter the building, Ben now leads this session as a level 2 gym instructor who is also working towards his level 3 personal training qualification. The session is also supported by a Chat 1st Team Activator who is fully trained in Mental Health First Aid.

These sessions are open to anyone showing any autistic traits and does not require a diagnosis of autism. Participants are welcome to bring along a friend or family member.
