Inspiring Young People Through Sport In July 2012 the Royal Foundation launched Coach Core; A new, innovative and exciting sports coaching apprenticeship targetting young people who wish to gain further education and employment in sport. The Royal Foundation is working in partnership with Active Essex, the county sports partnership for Essex, who will manage the “Team Essex” Coach Core programme. Brentwood Leisure Trust would like to introduce you to two of our Coach Core Apprentices who you will be seeing around the Centre.Jake Watson  What Sports do you currently do? I currently play 6-a-side football with my mates. I am a regular user of the gym at the Brentwood Centre as I’m very keen on fitness and staying as fit as possible. Whether I’m doing various light exercises at home daily or at the gym, everything counts and pushes me on. What excites you most about being an apprentice at The Brentwood Centre? The most exciting part will be working with the staff and the people who take part, building great bonds with everyone is key to being forward thinking positive and happy at what I do! Learning all the different ways and techniques about being a coach in general, as it takes more than just yourself to be one. A happy individual self is key. I think it will be amazing learning about all the different spots the Brentwood Centre offers. I might take up some new sports myself. Where do you see yourself in 10 years time? I do like to keep my options open. But if all goes well with this great opportunity, then there is a strong possibility I will be working within sport. Football is my favourite, but I wouldn’t shut the door on any sport. My number one priority would be to thoroughly enjoy it. Mikaela Kennedy  What Sports do you currently do? I currently participate in gymnastics and have worked as a volunteer for the past 5 years at Havering Gymnastics club. I also enjoy trampolining. What are you most excited about being an apprentice at The Brentwood Centre? I’m most excited about meeting new people and gaining experience in a variety of sports. I really enjoy working with children and I would like to widen my knowledge of coaching in this area. Where do you see yourself in 10 years time? In 10 years time I hope to be doing a job that involves sports that I thoroughly enjoy. |
