We are proud to announce that we have joined forces with Leyton Orient Football Club to bring you the fantastic Leyton Orient Youth Development Centre based here at the Brentwood Centre for 4 – 16 year olds. To find out more, we caught up with Lee Hughes, Leyton Orient Brentwood Centre Head Coach.
Lee, tell us a bit about how the development centre works?
The development centres allow the kids to still play for their local side but also receive extra high level professional coaching (UEAFA licensed coaches) backed by a professional club. The aim being to develop the kids to become the best players they can be. Potentially progressing to the elite squads where they may be taken for a trial at Leyton Orient FC centre of excellence.
What are the benefits of being on a football training scheme backed by a professional football club?
The development centre prepares the kids for the professional environment that they would experience at the centre of excellence. They wear a Leyton Orient kit and they learn the drills so if they go for a trial they are comfortable with the process, enhancing their opportunity for success. They also play matches against other professional development and elite squads, pre-arranged fixtures including teams such as Colchester United, Ipswich Town and Southend United. Plus, there are some extra perks like at times training with the first team players and the odd free ticket for a match.
