Salary: £14,430 – £17,238 pa
Hours: 39 hours per week pro rata working to a shift pattern
Objective of the job:
To take responsibility for the safe and effective day to day operation of the facility, it’s staff and customers.
Accountability:
Accountable to the Brentwood Leisure Trust Chief Executive, Board of Trustees, Senior Managers and Duty Managers accountable for all staff whilst on shift.

Responsibilities and Duties of Role
In order to be considered for a Recreational Attendant position, you need to be a strong swimmer, and have excellent customer service skills. You’ll need to be energetic, approachable, calm under pressure, and enjoy working with the public.
Key Tasks:
- Pool lifeguarding.
- Spotting hazards and preventing accidents.
- Giving advice on water safety.
- Preparation of hall events.
- Work to daily schedule of work
- Provide support to all staff.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Prepare the facility for the next shift.
- Hold keys and radio when required.
- Open / Close the building when required .
Main Duties:
- To Lead and co-ordinate a safe evacuation of the pool in the event of an emergency.
- Responsible for administering first aid and ensuring all the correct documentation has been completed.
- Responsible for assisting the late closing of the building ensuring it is secure and all areas are locked up correctly.
- To ensure the highest levels of hygiene throughout the facility are being met and maintained through the use of pre-planned schedules whilst ensuring all COSHH guidelines are maintained.
- To assist in helping all setups and takedowns at the appropriate programmed times for all bookings.
- To convey a message to customers of a high commitment to customer care and meeting the needs of the public.
- Ensure that you attend the appropriate staff training sessions to maintain knowledge in accordance with the NPLQ.
- To carry out any delegated tasks set by the duty managers.
- Be responsible for holding a radio and communicating with other departments.
- Any other duties deemed necessary by the Chief Executive, Senior Managers or Operations Managers.
Person Specification
Lifeguards are highly trained in resuscitation, first aid and water rescue skills. To learn these skills and be qualified as a Lifeguard, you need to successfully pass the National Pool Lifeguarding Qualification (NPLQ) awarded by the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS). Find local courses at www.rlssdirect.co.uk/course-finder/. To Enrol on a course, you must be at least 16 years of age and be able to meet the following criteria:
- Jump/Dive into deep water.
- Swim 50m in less than 60 seconds.
- Tread Water for 30 seconds.
- Surface dive to bottom of the pool.
Essential Criteria
- NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguarding Qualification).
- First Aid at Work.
- Strong Swimmer.
- Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to appropriately correct behaviour of pool users where necessary.
Desirable Criteria
- Understanding of relevant health and safety legislation.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Confidence and an approachable nature.
- A high standard of physical fitness.

Hold a valid Rescue Test for teachers / Lifeguard qualification
Experience is not necessary as we will give training.
